Vibstr vs Linear
Short answer: Linear is the right pick for cross-functional product teams of 20+ that want a polished tracker spanning design, product, engineering, and support. Vibstr is the right pick for solo devs and 3-to-5-person teams that live inside Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot daily and want a tracker the AI already talks to.
Both have legitimate places. This page exists so you can pick the right one without us pretending the other doesn't exist.
Where Linear wins
- Polish: Linear's interaction design is the gold standard for software trackers. Cycles, projects, views — everything feels considered. Few products invest in craft at this level.
- Cross-functional fit: design, product, support, and engineering share the same surface natively. Triage workflows, customer feedback loops, and roadmap views all live in one place. Vibstr does not try to be this.
- Team scale: built for orgs of 20 to 200 engineers. Cycles, hierarchies, role-based permissions, SAML, audit logs — the full enterprise package without the heavier alternative's drag.
Where Vibstr is different
- AI-first by design: the per-item AI sidebar already knows the item, its linked plan, sibling items, comments, activity, and any GitHub PRs that touched it. Press
afrom any open item. Read tools auto-execute; write tools render an approval card. - Plans derive items deterministically: write a markdown plan in canonical format (
# Title/## Goal/## Taskswith- [ ] {type, area} desclines) and items derive with zero AI cost. No equivalent exists in Linear. - Built for the smallest unit: solo devs and 3-person teams. No cycles to plan, no triage rituals, no view-permission matrices. The four primitives — item, plan, build, project — are the whole vocabulary.
When to pick which
If you need cross-functional polish, cycle planning, and a workspace that supports product, design, and support alongside engineering, use Linear. If you're a solo dev or a 3-to-5-person team using Claude Code daily and want the tracker the AI already talks to, use Vibstr.
Many devs run both for different projects. That's fine.

Migrating from Linear
No automated importer yet. Export your Linear issues to CSV, transform into the canonical Vibstr Plan format (- [ ] {type, area} desc lines under ## Tasks), paste into a new Vibstr plan, and the deterministic parser derives items — zero AI cost. See Plans for the full format.
If demand for a direct Linear importer is real, file it as feedback at support@custardsquare.com and it'll get scoped.
