Vibstr vs Notion
Short answer: Notion is the right pick if you want one flexible workspace to build your own tracker, docs, wiki, and database tooling. Vibstr is the right pick if you want a tracker purpose-built for shipping code with an AI agent — no setup, no template hunting, just ship.
Both have legitimate places. This page exists so you can pick the right one without us pretending Notion's flexibility doesn't matter.
If you need the flexibility to build whatever, use Notion. If you want a tracker that's already designed for the AI-first dev workflow, use Vibstr.
Where Notion wins
- Flexibility: build any internal tool you can imagine. Trackers, wikis, CRMs, content calendars, OKRs — all from the same primitive blocks.
- Docs and database fusion: write a long-form doc that embeds a live database. Few tools do this as well, and for teams whose docs and trackers should live next to each other, this is a real advantage.
- Team workspace: a single home for everything a team writes, plans, and tracks. Reduces tool sprawl significantly for teams that want one surface instead of five.
Where Vibstr is different
- Purpose-built for shipping code: items have a status (open / checking / done) that maps to a commit close. Plans derive items deterministically. The sidebar knows GitHub context. None of this is bolt-on or build-it-yourself.
- Zero setup: install, sign in, capture your first item. No "build your tracker database first" step. Vibstr decided that for you.
- AI sidebar is per-item, not per-page: Notion's AI works on whatever page you're on. Vibstr's AI already knows the item, its linked plan, sibling items, comments, activity, and any GitHub PRs that touched it.
When to pick which
If you want a flexible workspace where you build your own tracker (and 50 other tools alongside it), use Notion. If you want a tracker that's already opinionated about how AI-first devs ship, use Vibstr.
Some teams run both: Notion for docs and wikis, Vibstr for the issue tracker. That works.

Migrating from Notion
No automated importer yet. Export your Notion database to CSV, transform into the canonical Vibstr Plan format (- [ ] {type, area} desc lines under ## Tasks), paste into a new Vibstr plan, and the deterministic parser derives items — zero AI cost. See Plans for the full format.
If demand for a direct Notion importer is real, file it as feedback at support@custardsquare.com and it'll get scoped.
